OUR STORY

Red Sombrero started as a production company that I created for one of my classes in college, and it became my portfolio. When first envisioning this company I wanted to create something that both promotes diversity in the stories told and in the people telling those stories. Though Red Sombrero is not a fully functioning production company at the moment, the spirit of what it stands for still lives on in the work I do. Hopefully, one day in the near future, this vision come to life.

Why Red Sombrero? Because It represents me, My Mexican heritage, and my passion for entertaining and sharing stories. But instead of using my voice as my vessel, like those who don the hat, I use my camera.

SAID ROJAS

I was born In Mexico but have spent most of my life in the Washington, DC area. Growing up here was difficult without knowing the language, but I was quickly able to adapt thanks to my first teacher, the television. I would watch cartoons, tv shows, and films, and I would be so captivated by the stories that I would absorb the language without knowing it. This is what ignited my passion and desire to be a filmmaker.

In 2015, I made that dream a reality when I graduated from the Art Institute of Washington and started my first Job working in nonfiction television as a PA for the Smithsonian Channel; I have Been working and growing there since learning the ins and outs of production. In my time there I have helped develop videos for Museums, produce programs and short-form content for the channel in the US and abroad, and worked as a Post-production manager getting programs through various workflows and ready for air.

When not working, I am still developing short films with my friends and competing in the local 72-hour film fest. A competition where you only have 72 hours to make a movie, and one that we received the highest award, Best of the Fest, in 2021. You can find samples of our work in the "Films" tab.
